The buttons made here at Sheepscot Harbor Yarns are fashioned in the Dorset Cartwheel style (also called Dorset Crosswheel).
Each Blooming Button is carefully done by hand, using top quality 100% pure Scottish wool from the Shetland Islands. An unlimited array of colorful designs, many resembling a flower, can be achieved- a true garden of floral beauty!

The process includes three major steps:
Casting or Slicking: winding the wool yarn around the ring, using a tapestry needle
Laying: creating the spokes of yarn that radiate symmetrically across the button, typically 8 spokes
Rounding: using a backstitch, a new piece of yarn covers the spokes in a basket weave effect
